A year ago, Hurricane Odile visited Baja California Sur leaving us all in disarray. We woke up to no services, some of our homes damaged and a new Cabo. Though our hearts were saddened, as a community we lost no time to get back on our feet.

Thanks to the federal government and the private initiative, within the week we saw hundreds of volunteers cleaning up the streets sweeping off and removing debris, banks began opening, supermarkets were offering non-perishable items and services were getting back to normal. Power was restored throughout the state within three weeks and the airport was soon able to take commercial national and international flights.

Some hotels closed for a brief period of time, but by mid-October, several hundred rooms were available and tourists began to arrive back to Los Cabos. Beaches were sparkling clean, eco-touristic services tours were operating and the richest fishing tournament, Bisbee’s Black & Blue, summoned 125 boats from all around the world and handed a whopping $2 million dollars in cash prizes at the awards ceremony, not bad at all for doing something you enjoy!

365 days have passed and what lessons have we learned? Has anything changed? Yes, we have definitely changed for the better. Hurricane Odile arrived and exposed our human fragility but multiplied its greatness. It put in perspective the importance and value of the area we live in. It allowed friends, neighbours and entire communities to work in unison cleaning and rebuilding homes and businesses. It gave us an opportunity to scratch the old and focus on the new. And business wise? There has never been a better time to invest in Baja California Sur.

Given its fast and solid recovery, investors continue betting on the area as a luxury residential mecca and resort epicenter of Mexico’s west coast. International brands such as Thompson Hotel, have opened the doors to a chic and elegant Land’s End resort, plus, the Cabo-San Jose corridor is boasting incredible residential and touristic projects due to open in the following year.

The real estate market throughout Baja is selling rather rapidly as the market’s demand becomes greater. Only in the first semester of 2015, over 300 properties were sold in BCS with a sales volume of $117,486,306 USD and we expect a solid third quarter for an even greater end of 2015. This winter season may be the last opportunity to buy something in Los Cabos before the environment becomes firmly a sellers Market. Retain a professional agent with a proven track record, pick the right property and don’t get left behind by this rising market.
